Finals are just around the corner for students, and before we know it, another school year will be over. This may come as a relief to some students, but before summer snoozing can begin, you have to get through finals. How can you ensure that you finish the year with a bang? Well here are a few tips:

  1. Schedule your appointments with your tutors as soon as possible. Seriously, this one is huge. If you know you will need extra help with Math, Science, English, Spanish, or any other subject, don’t wait to schedule appointments. Here at Learning Ascent, our tutors are snapped up before many even think to call us. So don’t wait. If you live in the Fox Valley or Tri-Cities Area, give us a call (630) 587-2795, or book online, or through our app.
  2. Don’t wait until Finals week to begin studying. At the time this post was written, most students have 2-4 weeks before finals. That doesn’t mean waiting 2-4 weeks to start studying. Use this time to space out studying, so you don’t have to cram an entire semester’s worth of information the night before.
  3. Study for 20 minutes, break for 5 minutes. This is a great strategy to keep you focused, but also to give you a break (or something to look forward to). Studying hard for 20 minutes straight is long enough to get good work done, but not so long that you lose focus. Breaks are essential in studying, but be careful not to let your breaks become longer than your study time. In that five minutes, walk away from your study area and do something completely different. Make your break an actual break.
  4. Get enough sleep! When you pull all-nighters studying for a final, chances are you will remember very little of what you studied, and you will be exhausted the next day during your test. Go to bed at a reasonable hour, and get enough sleep. Don’t depend on caffeine and will power to get you through.
  5. Use study tools like note cards, old tests and quizzes, and online quizzing websites. Note cards are one of the easiest study tools, as they are portable and able to be used in many ways. Old tests and quizzes are a fantastic way to review, because it condenses a section of the class to a few sheets of paper. And finally, use a website like Quizlet to make your own online flashcards, quizzes, and study games to help with those finals. Some teachers even post their own reviews and quizzes on there!

Good luck to all the students finishing up the 2015-2016 school year! You can do it!
